Bacteriostatic Water is a sterile, non-pyrogenic water solution containing 0.9% (9 mL/L) benzyl alcohol as a bacteriostatic preservative. It is supplied in a multi-dose 30 mL vials and is intended to dilute or dissolve research reagents that require an aqueous vehicle before use. The benzyl alcohol inhibits bacterial growth, allowing repeated withdrawals within up to 28 days under appropriate aseptic handling. pH typically falls within 4.5–7.0. Not for clinical use; Research Use Only (RUO).

Advice
  • Use aseptic technique for every withdrawal to preserve bacteriostatic performance. Once opened, the vial should be used within 28 days to maintain safety and efficacy, after which it should be discarded. Always check the expiration date before using, and discard the vial if the solution appears discolored or contains particles.
  • For peptide/protein reconstitution, consult the reagent datasheet for recommended diluent and pH.
